about

As a musical side project, Bauhaus guitarist Daniel Ash originally created Tones on Tail along with bassist Glenn Campling. However it wasn’t until the break up of Bauhaus, when Kevin Haskins joined, that Tones On Tail formed itself into a proper band. In the two years that followed, the trio recorded and released some of the most ground breaking experimental music. Interlacing a sparse psychedelic atmosphere into languid, jumpy light funk with hushed vocals, angry lyrics and weird sound effects, Tones On Tail was the antithesis of the project that spawned them. They burned brightly, but saw their end after a US Tour in late 1984.

1985, enter former Bauhaus bandmate.

Ash and Haskins reunited with former Bauhaus bandmate, David J to form Love And Rockets. Building upon years of experience, Love & Rockets incorporated all of what was, with elements of Post-Punk and a touch '60s Psychedelic Rock. The group had a devoted cult following for most of the late '80s, only really seeing some notoriety in 1989 with their hit “So Alive”. However, for those of us who knew of them, had been following them and dancing to their music throughout the years in dark, smoky clubs, we all knew they were much, much more. We knew…and watched, as they set the foundation for what alternative rock would become.

It is with deep found respect that we here at Coitus Interruptus Productions have gathered up some of todays artists to pay homage to, and reinterpret some of our favorite Tones On Tail and Love & Rockets songs.

“The Work of Sinners, The Work of Saints” is offered 100% free of charge (or "Pay What You Want" to help support future releases).
